# 16: Trying the 5:2 diet

Today I am trying the 5:2 way of life. The idea is that you fast for 2 days a week, eating normally the other 5 days. On fast days, you limit yourself to 500 calories for women or 600 calories for men.

The benefits of this are improved mental clarity, weight loss, and a healthier immune system.

I discovered this through a BBC documentary by Dr Michael Mosley. And who doesn’t want all of these benefits?

I can’t say that day 1 was easy, as there were some hunger pains. Today’s breakfast was black coffee, and I saved my 500 calories for one dinner in the evening of salad with chickpeas.
