“Spring is when you feel like whistling even with a shoe full of slush” – Doug Larson
This weekend I took a day trip to the Omana Regional Park, located in Maraetai – about a 30 minute drive from central Auckland.
Omana has a beautiful shingle beach, and picnic and camping facilities, which I image to be amazing in the summer. There is also a small farm, and we got to meet some lambs on the walk around the perimeter fence.
To walk the whole circuit of the park and beach takes around an hour so it’s perfect for a day trip (especially if you bring a picnic or use one of the onsite bbqs) but we ended up cutting short the walk due to ill preparation for the weather. Sadly, despite it being spring, Auckland has been battered by some severe storms and winds over the last few days, and so despite a sunny start to the walk, we were soon stuck in a huge rain storm.
Nice to be out and about, but might have been better in the Summer – 3 out of 5 stars
