#66 Future Nails

“I believe in manicures. I believe in overdressing. I believe in primping at leisure and wearing lipstick…” Audrey Hepburn

I’ve never been a typical girly girl, and pampering isn’t really one of my things. I don’t take ages to get ready to go out. I believe in comfort rather than style when it comes to shoes. I own three items of make up (eye liner, blush and lipstick), and I’ve mastered a series of hair styles that can be done in less than 5 mins and look…well not always good…but passable at least.

There’s no reason for this, it’s just my personality.

But there are three things that I will spend time on, and have done professionally. These are; massages, whether head, back, feet, legs or shoulders, and the firmer the better; having a hair cut (although mainly because I like having my head massaged when they wash your hair); and having my nails done.

Having my nails done is a special treat for me. I have an uncanny ability to chip and break nails (which looks awful), so having gel polish applied means my nails stay nicer for longer and my hands look lovelier.

Also, going to the nail salon is synonymous with  my lovely friend Helen who lives back in the ‘Bay. I try and see her every month, which means that by the time we meet up, our nails are growing out and time to treat ourselves to the nail salon.

Having my nails done isn’t usually blog-worthy, but this weekend, my new thing was a trip to Bliss Nail Bar in Emmerson Street, Napier, to try holographic nails. This shiny, futuristic effect is achieved with a powder which is applied over a gel base colour (the colour above is the powder over a light grey base).

I love my future nails so this experience gets 5 out of 5 stars.
